In the United Arab Emirates, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade, Ian Borg, signed a number of agreements on behalf of the Maltese Government in order to have more cooperation in the maritime sector, youth, culture, and sports. This was done during a bilateral meeting with Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates.

In an official visit, Minister Ian Borg said that cooperation in the maritime sector, which is an equally crucial sector for trade between Malta and the UAE, was essential. He stated that the work regarding this cooperation agreement with the UAE in this field began after a visit to the UAE in 2021. He welcomed the signing of the cooperation agreements in this field as well as those regarding youth and sports.

“This year, the two countries will celebrate the 50th anniversary since the beginning of diplomatic relations, and these agreements will reinforce the strong bilateral relationship that exists”, stated Minister Ian Borg.

During this meeting, Malta’s and the United Arab Emirates work in the United Nations Security Council was also discussed, particularly last February’s Maltese Presidency of the Council as well as the work of the UAE in preparation for their Presidency in June 2023.
