In the coming days, the ‘L-Istrina BOV Piggy Bank Campaign’ cardboard piggy banks will start being distributed in every Primary and Secondary School class in Malta and Gozo with the aim of raising funds in aid of The Malta Community Chest Fund.
During the launch of the 20th edition of the campaign, the President of Malta George Vella reminded the attending college principals and heads of schools of their great responsibility in shaping the men and women of tomorrow by fostering, among others, the values of solidarity and mutual respect.
On behalf of all those receiving the help of the MCCF, President Vella expressed his appreciation to Bank of Valletta (BOV) and the educators in all schools for their constant support, especially in encouraging students to donate money through the piggy banks to help those going through difficult times.
BOV’s CEO, Kenneth Farrugia, said that this year the ‘L-Istrina BOV Piggy Bank Campaign’ piggy bank is once again made from recycled material and has a fresh look with much less use of ink from past years in order to minimise the environmental impact.
Farrugia announced that for the first time Junior College, Higher Secondary, MCAST and University of Malta students can also participate in this campaign by sending a donation through the BOV mobile app to 79359565. He also announced that over the years, BOV has presented over €2.85 million to the MCCF.
During the launch at the Presidential Palace in Valletta, the Permanent Secretary within the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation, Matthew Vella, and the Opposition’s Spokesperson for Education, Justin Schembri, encouraged the students to be generous and to recognise their great altruistic gesture in helping those facing hardships.
In the coming weeks, Mrs Miriam Vella, who was present at the launch, is expected to visit some schools and personally encourage the children to be part of this campaign.
