Malta has been elected on the Rules Committee of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) for the first time, according to a press statement Malta Enterprise sent to Business Malta. The elections were held during the 166th session of the General Assembly of the BIE held in Paris on 27 November.

The Rules Committee’s—composed of representatives of 12 member states of the BIE elected by the General Assembly—main function is to provide organising and participating countries at expos with a guide of all the mandatory regulations. It also examines the rules and regulations of these expos, as well as establishes the BIE’s internal by-laws.

Malta has actively participated at each World Expo since Hannover 2000 and is also an official participant at Expo 2020 Dubai being held in the United Arab Emirates from the 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021, Malta Enterprise says. Malta’s participation is coordinated by Malta Enterprise under the auspices of the Ministry for the Economy, Industry and Small Businesses.

The BIE is an intergovernmental organisation in charge of overseeing and regulating all non-commercial international exhibitions (expos) lasting more than three weeks.
