Total guests in collective accommodation establishments during the fourth quarter of 2023 stood at 547,133 while total nights spent amounted to 2,290,509.
In the fourth quarter of 2023, the largest share of guest nights was reported in 4-star hotels, with 49.7 per cent of the total .
The average length of stay in collective accommodation establishments in 2023 remained constant at 4.2 nights when compared to the figure registered during the same quarter of 2022. The net use of bed-places stood at 55.2 per cent, up by 5.4 percentage points when compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
On a national level, during December 2023, there were 296 active collective accommodation establishments with a net capacity of 19,591 bedrooms and 44,656 bed-places.
Regional breakdown
On a regional level, total guests in Malta numbered 522,383, up by 16.8 per cent over the fourth quarter of 2022. Additionally, an increase of 16.1 per cent was recorded in the number of nights spent, reaching 2,220,817 nights. Total guests in Gozo and Comino increased by 14.8 per cent to 24,750, while nights increased by 28.0 per cent to 69,692.
When compared with the same quarter of the previous year, in Malta, the average length of stay remained constant at 4.3 nights. In Gozo and Comino, the average length of stay went up by 0.3 of a night to 2.8 nights. The net occupancy rate in Malta increased by 5.4 percentage points, reaching 56.1 per cent, and that in Gozo and Comino increased by 6.0 percentage points to 35.8 per cent.
January-December 2023
Total guests of 2023 amounted to 2,252,822, an increase of 24.2 per cent over the same period in 2022. Total nights spent increased by 20.5 per cent reaching 9,892,838 nights. The net use of bed-places went up by 8.9 percentage points to 62.2 per cent.
