Minister for Public Works and Planning Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi said that €800,000 will be spent on works on the roof and windows of the main workshop of the Directorate of Manufacturing and Services in Kordin industrial estate.

The works, which will begin in the coming days, will be carried out by workers of the Department of Public Works, and is expected to be completed within around four months, Zrinzo Azzopardi said.

He said that the investment is being done to ensure a healthier and safer work environment for workers in this section, which will lead to increased productivity of the services provided.

Ongoing training will continue to be provided for workers, he said.

Director of Manufacturing and Services Raymond Caruana said that the project will replace the existing iron roof with “insulated sandwich panels.” He said that the windows will also be replaced with new ones which open automatically.

The roof’s new structure will have installed photovoltaic panels for the provision of electricity, Caruana said.
