Foreign Minister Evarist Bartolo meets Ukrainian community in Malta

Representatives of the Ukrainian community in Malta today  expressed their appreciation  for the massive support  of the Maltese Government and Maltese citizens alike to the Ukranian people in these difficult times, when they met Foreign and European Affairs Minister Evarist Bartolo at the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs, Valletta.

The Ukrainian delegation, led by Ms Anna Syurma, Consular Assistant at the Consulate of Ukraine in Malta, thanked the Maltese government for the provision of medical assistance to the Ukranian people and also discussed potential travel arrangements for those Ukranians  who would need to come to Malta.

Minister Evarist Bartolo told the delegation that the Ukrainian tragedy has mobilised solidarity with the Ukranian people both within and outside the European Union adding that the Maltese Government will continue to defend the interests of the Ukrainian people at all international fora.

Ms Anna Syurma, accompanied by Ms Alexia Melkonyan and Ms Anna Turanska, representatives of the Ukrainian community in Malta, said the Ukrainian community in Malta is standing united hoping this tragedy will come to an end very soon. They said this is not an aggression from the Russian people saying that every day ordinary Russian citizens contact them and express their support to the Ukranian people. They thanked the Maltese and Gozitan people for the help  afforded and said that a list of needed items in Ukraine can be obtained by consulting the facebook page of Honorary Consulate of Ukraine in Malta.

The meeting was also attended by Mr John Debono, Non-Resident Ambassador to Ukraine.
