Public gathered at the Gozo Nature Museum in Victoria on Saturday as Heritage Malta showcased a small Maltese flag which has been carried to the Moon and back, accompanied by fragments from the Moon, according to a press release sent to Business Malta.

The Maltese flag was taken on its lunar sojourn by three astronauts Neil A. Armstrong, Edwin E. Aldrin Jr and Michael Collins during their Apollo 11 expedition which started 16 July 1969, the Heritage Malta press release says.

The crew of Apollo 11 also brought fragments from the Moon’s surface, back to Earth. Four tiny fragments that were presented to the people of Malta by US President Richard Nixon are on permanent display at the Gozo Nature Museum in the Citadel, Victoria.

The ticket purchased for Saturday allows the access to all four Heritage Malta sites; Gran Castello Historic House, Gozo Museum of Archaeology, Old Prison, the Natural Science Museum and also the Citadel Visitor Centre.

Moreover, the citizens holding the Student Passport and the Senior Passport have free access to all the mentioned sites.
