The Land Registration Agency is in the process of updating its overall strategy in a way that acknowledges all aspects of land registration as well as contemporary realities. This strategy update is to include both legislative renewal and the further digitization of this area.
This was announced by Lands Minister Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi while speaking at the second workshop of the European Land Registry Network, which was organised in Malta by the European Land Registry Association (ELRA) alongside Malta’s Land Registration Agency. This workshop saw officials involved in European Land Registries to convene, share their experiences, and discuss plans for the integration of digital technology in their processes.
Minister Zrinzo Azzopardi said that over time, the way in which properties have been sold and developed has changed, and that it has become very common that one building features several facilities of different uses as well as varying concepts in how the air of a building is used.
The Lands Minister stated that the introduction of digital technology in the Land Registry is essential. Resultantly, the agency will be investing in digital systems to ensure that processes within the Lands Registry become more efficient and transparent.
“With a focus on the use of more digital technology for research work and the registration of properties, we will be speeding up and strengthening these processes while making them more accessible,” the Minister said.
Zrinzo Azzopardi added that the Land Registration Agency is committed to training more people to meet the agency’s modern challenges and that as a result, it is essential for the agency to make the necessary investments in human resources so that the public is better served.
The agency will be entering a wide consultation with all stakeholders involved in its work so that they will be well-informed and consulted about the planned changes to its strategy. The Lands Ministry issued that experts should be part of this process since their knowledge and experience can contribute to making the strategies adopted by the agency more effective.
