Manufacturing sector is creating new opportunities for the next generation – PM

The manufacturing sector is continuously strengthening and diversifying into new areas that lead to better careers for the next generation, expanding into innovative fields such as robotics and specialized engineering, which are emerging in our country.

This shows that Malta’s economy is also diversifying through the assistance offered by the Government to this sector, which employs thousands of Maltese and Gozitan workers, Prime Minister Robert Abela said on Monday during a visit to the Trelleborg Sealing Solutions factory at the Ħal Far industrial zone.

Abela said that the company’s plan, with over 60 years of history in Malta, it to invest €14 million in the next two years to make its operations even cleaner.

In fact, the additional investment in sustainable machinery in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and semiconductor industries, among others, comes after the company expanded with over 6,000m2 of additional space, including 4,000m2 for production. This follows assistance received from Malta Enterprise and INDIS Malta.

Abela visited the area where the additional space is being built and noted how this new place aligns with the country’s new priorities.

“This means that we can continue to progress and create jobs that provide a better quality of life but with environmental changes that also provide economic opportunities,” he said.

In a discussion he had with workers on the job site, Abela showed appreciation for the career advancement of many workers.

Currently, the company employs nearly 600 people in Ħal Far and Marsa and is established as a centre of excellence in manufacturing and in the field of research and innovation both in Malta and also in the Trelleborg Group. The group records an annual turnover of around three billion euros.

During the visit Abela was also accompanied by the Minister for the Economy Silvio Schembri.
