Total inbound tourists for February 2024 were estimated at 168,967, an increase of 27.5 per cent when compared to the corresponding month in 2023, the NSO said Friday.
During the month under review, a total of 151,862 inbound tourists visited Malta for holiday purposes, and 10,244 tourists came for business purposes. The largest share of inbound tourists were aged between 25 and 44 (35.5 per cent), followed by the 45-64 age bracket (33.0 per cent). British, Italian and Polish residents made up 44.5 per cent of total inbound tourists.
Total nights spent went up by 24.0 per cent when compared to February 2023, surpassing 1.0 million nights. The largest share of guest nights (84.4 per cent) was spent in rented accommodation establishments (Table 3). The average length of stay of total inbound tourists stood at 6.0 nights.
Total tourist expenditure almost reached €114.3 million, an increase of 31.5 per cent over the corresponding month in 2023. The average expenditure per night was estimated at €112.9.
The number of tourists visiting Gozo and Comino, including both same-day and overnight visitors, totalled 77,083, or 45.6 per cent of total tourists.
January-February 2024
Inbound tourists for the first two months of 2024 amounted to 340,988, an increase of 26.9 per cent over the same period in 2023. Total nights spent by inbound tourists went up by 9.4 per cent, surpassed 2.0 million nights.
Total tourist expenditure was estimated at €224.2 million, 20.5 per cent higher than that recorded for 2023. Total expenditure per capita decreased to €657 from €692 in 2023.
The number of tourists visiting Gozo and Comino, including both same-day and overnight visitors, totalled 152,989, or 44.9 per cent of total tourists.
