The Public Appointments Committee in Parliament on Monday approved former Finance Minister Edward Scicluna as governor of the Central Bank of Malta.
The Opposition objected.
Scicluna resigned as minister earlier this year. He had served in the post since 2013.
He was questioned for two hours by the committee, and was criticised by opposition MPs for not safeguarding Malta’s reputation during his time as minister. Scicluna said he always acted correctly.
He will take up the post of Central Bank Governor on 1 January.
