Peter Fenech to lead new Chamber of Advocates council

Peter Fenech will lead a newly elected Chamber of Advocates council, which the Chamber said is ushering in a period of dynamic leadership and strategic direction for the next three years until 2026.

15 candidates competed for the 10 available seats on the Council which has now undertaken the appointment of key roles, marking a significant step towards realizing the Chamber’s amplified objectives.

Peter Fenech is the newly elected President of the Chamber of Advocates, and he is “poised to guide the Chamber into a future that embraces innovation and proactively addresses the evolving needs of the legal profession,” the Chamber said in a statement.

Stefan Camilleri has been appointed as Secretary General and Ethics Officer, while Paul Micallef Grimaud and Anna Mifsud Bonnici will serve as Vice President for Advancement of the Profession and Vice President for Internal Affairs respectively.

Cedric Mifsud has been appointed as Financial Officer, while Deo Falzon and Donald Vella take up the positions of Communications and Technology Officer and Professional Development Officer respectively.

Christine Calleja serves as External Relations Officer, Davinia Cutajar serves as International Officer, and Victoria Cuschieri serves as Court Liaison Officer.

The Chamber said that the introduction of some novel positions such as the Vice President for the Advancement of the Profession supported by the Professional Development Officer and the Court Liaison Officer, the Communications and Technology Officer and the International Officer underlines its commitment to fortifying its impact during this tenure.

“The emphasis will be on steering the regulation of the profession and catalysing essential advancements across the legal practice as a whole,” the Chamber said.

At the inaugural Council meeting, Fenech, after having thanked all members forming part of the previous Council, extended a warm welcome to the newly composed Council which is uniquely characterized by its diverse representation of legal practitioners from various domains marking a significant milestone in the Chamber’s composition.

Fenech expressed optimism that this diversified representation will holistically champion the interests of the profession, providing impetus for its progressive evolution.

“The Chamber of Advocates is resolute in its commitment to advancing the legal profession, fostering innovation, and shaping an empowered community of legal practitioners.”
