Over 120 individuals participated in a webinar on ‘Trading with Rwanda’ organised by TradeMalta in association with the Rwanda Development Bureau and Rwanda Private Sector Association.

Rwanda offers an internal market of 12 million people with a rapidly growing middle class. Its GDP growth rate is one of the highest among African economies, and it is increasingly recognised as a hub for a rapidly integrating Africa. Centrally located, Rwanda is part of the East African Community (EAC) with a market potential of over 132 million people. It is also signatory to the 2018 Kigali African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (ACFTA) currently being implemented under the auspices o the African Union.

The webinar highlighted opportunities for long-term and sustainable partnerships for business growth at a time when companies are seeking new market opportunities for investment and growth. Mr. Karl Aquilina, a speaker at the webinar and the CEO of a Maltese company which recently opened up in Rwanda, highlighted efficiency and professionalism as a hallmark quality in his engagement with Rwandan authorities. A specific focus on travel and Covid-19 highlighted the strict protocols which are being followed in Rwanda to assure safety for visitors. Indeed, Rwanda is on the Green list of countries permitted access to the European Union at this time.
