RMHC Malta opens learning centre in Qawra

The Ronald McDonald House Charities (RHMC) Malta has established a Learning Center in Qawra, San Pawl il-Bahar, offering a range of services and programmes for children and teens with learning or social challenges, according to a press release sent to Business Malta.

Together with NGOs such as ADHD Malta and Autism Parents Association (APA) Malta, the learning centre aims at safeguarding the well-being of children needing educational support. The centre comprises of training rooms and activity areas, along with a fully-equipped teaching kitchen. It was inaugurated by Martin Xuereb, Chairman of RMHC Malta.

Three programmes are available at the RMHC Learning Centre; “Social Smarts for children with ADHD”, “Parent Training Course for Raising Kids with ADHD” and “Social Integration Programme for Teens”.

“Social Smarts for children with ADHD” is a 15-hour programme designed to assist children with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder by providing them with tools for improved behaviour in social interaction. The parents are also included in the programme, in order to provide them with skills on how to manage ADHD symptoms.

The “Parent Training Course for Raising Kids with ADHD” covers a range of topics such as, behavioural strategies, understanding how ADHD affects child development and skills. It is aimed at providing parents or carers with support to strengthen skills and strategies for caring for a child with ADHD.

“Social Integration Programme for Teens” targets school-leavers with autism and seeks to address the challenges they face in social interaction.

They deliver programmes and services in 64 countries and regions, helping over 5.5 million children and their families every year. McDonald’s has supported the Ronald McDonald House Charities since it was established in 1974. RMHC Malta’s leading benefactor is Premier Restaurants Malta, the operator of nine McDonald’s restaurants in the Maltese Islands.
