High-tech firm Stargate Studios Malta has become the most recent tenant of Mosta Technopark, according to a press statement issued by the Maltese government’s Department of Information (DOI). Stargate Studios offers visual effects and production services to the film and television industries all over the world.
“As Malta’s economy graduates from labour-intensive to technology-intensive industries, the developmental strategy for the Mosta Technopark has expanded so that it now houses high-tech and specialisation industries, that in a broader view, diversify and create advantages for Malta’s economy,” said Minister for the Economy, Investment and Small Businesses Chris Cardona during the opening of the company’s new offices.
“A technopark truly contributes to Malta’s economy when it houses not only production commercialisation, but accommodates research and development, education and training, technology innovation and transfer. We are glad to see the cultivation of the Mosta Technopark bearing fruit and diversifying Malta’s economic portfolio,” the minister added.
The Maltese arm of Stargate Studios is part of an international group of studios with its main office situated in Los Angeles, California. Local production company The Bigger Picture partnered with the international group in 2012 to form Stargate Studios Malta.
The Maltese studio is the European hub of Stargate’s global network, working on an average of three shows simultaneously. The studio employs around 30 full-timers and has developed training programmes which will lead to the setting up of a training academy that will bridge the local skills gap.
