Il-Ministeru għat-Turiżmu u l-Protezzjoni tal-Konsumatur vara proġett fil-Qrendi bħala parti minn rotta ġdida ta’ turiżmu reliġjuz. It-tlestija tar-restawr fuq tliet statwi fil-Qrendi li huma tar-ruħ, ta’ Santa Marija u ta’ Lourdes, bl-istatwa ta’ Santa Marija bi storja li tmur lura għal kważi 400 sena. Ix-xogħol kollu sar mill-Awtorità Maltija għat-Turiżmu.

F’konferenza tal-aħbarijiet minn quddiem ix-xena pittoreska tal-Maqluba fil-Qrendi stess, il-Ministru għat-Turiżmu Julia Farrugia Portelli qalet li dan ir-raħal kull sena jżuruh aktar minn 200,000 turist minħabba l-wirt storiku li joffri bit-tempji ta’ Ħaġar Qim u l-Imnajdra. Qalet li t-turiżmu reliġjuż huwa wieħed mill-pilastri li qed inħarsu lejh mill-aspett lokali imma wkoll internazzjonali. Spjegat li b’dan il-proġett pilota raħal bħall-Qrendi, li huwa mogħni bl-istorja, bit-tradizzjoni u bir-reliġjon, inkunu nistgħu noffru produtt turistiku aħjar lil dawk li jżuruh. Il-ministru rringrazzjat lill-Kunsill Lokali tal-Qrendi għall-kontribut tagħhom f’dan il-proġett kif ukoll lill-Amministratur tal-Parroċċa Rev Fr. Mario Said u liż-żewġ soċjetajiet mużikali fir-raħal.

Id-Direttur dwar l-Iżvilupp tal-Prodott fl-Awtorità Maltija għat-Turiżmu, Kevin Fsadni, żied li dan l-investiment fil-wirt storiku lokali huwa turija tal-importanza li l-Awtorità qed tagħti fil-prodott, speċjalment dak fil-villaġġi ż-żgħar u stupendi tagħna. Qal li dan ma jkunx possibbli mingħajr l-involviment tal-organizzazzjonijiet lokali u tal-appoġġ kontinwu tal-Ministeru.

Is-Sindku tal-Qrendi David Schembri rringrazzja lill-Ministeru u lill-Awtorità tat-Turiżmu li permezz ta’ dan il-proġett qed ikun hemm għarfien dwar il-kultura ta’ din il-lokalità. Temm jgħid li proġetti bħal dawn huma essenzjali għar-residenti tal-lokal imma wkoll għat-turisti li jżuru l-Qrendi.
