According to figures tabled in parliament, 89,841 Maltese women were in employment as of the end of January 2025. This marks a 35% increase since the end of December 2013, when this figure stood at just 66,414 Maltese women.
This data was published by Byron Camilleri, the Minister for Home Affairs in response to a Parliamentary Question asked by Opposition MP Chris Said. This parliamentary response did not clarify how many were in part-time or full-time employment.
These figures relate solely to women of Maltese nationality in employment as of this January. NSO Malta recently reported that as of this January, the number of females in full-time employment had increased by 4% from the previous year – up to 116,701 women in full-time employment.
